Yesterday, we held a carved calligraphy workshop ^^
Including myself, four participants took on the challenge under the guidance of Mr. Watanabe from the Japan Carved Calligraphy Association, swapping our brushes for carving knives.
Before the workshop, we each completed our drafts, so that on the day we could simply transfer them onto the boards and start carving.

Everyone prepared in advance — deciding on the characters and calligraphy style during lesson time.
Even though we all used the same clerical script (隷書体), each person’s individuality shone through, resulting in completely different impressions^^We began by adding color to the boards.
This time, everyone chose calm, subdued tones.
As for me — I ended up chatting too much with the teacher^^; so my work didn’t progress very quickly.
Meanwhile, everyone else quietly focused and finished their pieces smoothly.
Despite it being their first attempt, the works looked remarkably accomplished — full of presence and confidence✨

- “翠雨 (Sui’u)” – Rain falling softly on trees and fresh leaves
- “謝得 (Shatoku)” – To repay kindness and feel gratitude for what one has gained
- “豁然 (Katsuen)” – The moment when confusion clears and everything opens up
After the class ended, I stayed behind to finish my own piece^^;
Mine was “玄遠 (Gen’en)” – Meaning something unfathomable, profound, and mysterious.
I colored it with the image of the deep sea at night, and chose a slightly soft seal script (篆書) to express the vast, embracing feeling of the ocean^^
